Privacy Policy
Effective November 5, 2026
Roofd helps homeowners answer insurance notices about their roofs. We collect as little as we can, we never sell your information, and the letter you upload to the appeal builder stays on your own device.
The short version
- Your insurance letter never leaves your device. The appeal builder reads PDFs, photos and pasted text inside your browser. We don't receive the letter, the details you type into it or the appeal it writes.
- We only store what you put in the reservation form. That's your email and a few optional answers about your notice.
- No ads or tracking. We don't use advertising cookies, tracking pixels or third-party analytics.
- We don't sell or share your information for advertising, and we never give it to insurers.
- You can ask us to delete your information at any time. Email [email protected].

1. Who we are
Roofd ("Roofd," "we," "us") runs tryroofd.com, which includes the free appeal builder, the state guides and the appeal kit reservation list. This policy explains what information we handle when you use the site and what we do with it. It applies only to tryroofd.com, not to websites we link to, such as state insurance departments or news sites.
2. What we collect
Information you give us
When you reserve an appeal kit, we collect:
- Your email address (required).
- Your optional answers: your state, the type of notice, the date your coverage ends, the name of your insurer, and whether you would pay for the kit.
- If you email us, your message and email address.
Please don't put your policy number, Social Security number, payment details or other sensitive information in the reservation form or in an email to us. We don't need them.
Information collected automatically
- Where you came from. When you reserve, we record the page that referred you and any campaign tags in the link (for example, utm_source). This helps us see which posts and partners send people to us.
- Approximate country. Our hosting provider tells us the country your request came from. We don't record your precise location.
- A coded form of your IP address, kept briefly. To stop spam, we store a one-way coded form of your IP address for about an hour, so we can limit how many times one connection can submit the form. We don't store the IP address itself with your reservation.
- Standard server logs. Like every website, our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes technical information such as IP addresses, browser type and the pages requested, in order to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
3. The appeal builder
The appeal builder at tryroofd.com/appeal/ is designed so that we never see your case.
- Letters stay on your device. When you upload a PDF or photo, or paste the text of your notice, the reading happens in your browser. The file and its text aren't uploaded to our servers.
- Your case details are saved only in your browser. Your name, address, policy number, dates and the draft letter are kept in your browser's local storage, so your case is still there when you come back. That data stays on your computer or phone. You can clear it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
- Downloaded letters are yours. When you download your letter, it's saved straight to your device.
- Map links. If you click "Satellite view" or "Historical imagery," your address is sent to Google Maps or Google Earth. This only happens when you click, and it's covered by Google's privacy policy.
4. How we use information
- To email you about your appeal kit, including when it opens in your state.
- To reply when you contact us.
- To understand demand, for example which states and kinds of notices are most common, so we can decide where to launch and what to build. We look at this in aggregate.
- To keep the site secure and prevent spam and abuse.
- To meet legal obligations.
We don't use your information for automated decisions that affect you, and we don't build advertising profiles.
5. Who we share it with
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We never share your information with insurance companies.
We share information only in these cases:
- Service providers that run the site. Cloudflare hosts the site and stores reservations. Google provides our email ([email protected]) and the web fonts on our pages. When a page loads, your browser requests the fonts from Google, and Google receives your IP address as part of that request. These providers process data for us under their own terms and privacy commitments.
- If the law requires it. For example, to respond to a valid subpoena or court order, or to protect someone's safety.
- If Roofd is sold or merges. Your information could transfer to the new owner, who would have to honor this policy or tell you before changing it.
6. Cookies and local storage
We don't set advertising or analytics cookies. The appeal builder uses your browser's local storage, only to save your case on your own device, as described above. Cloudflare may set strictly necessary security cookies to protect the site from attacks.
7. How long we keep it
We keep reservation information until the appeal kit launches in your state, then for up to 24 months after our last contact with you, unless you ask us to delete it sooner. Spam-prevention records expire automatically after about an hour. Emails you send us are kept as long as needed to help you, then deleted.
8. Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe. Every email we send has a way to opt out. You can also just reply "unsubscribe."
- Access, correction and deletion. Email [email protected] from the address you used. We'll confirm the request and respond within 30 days, and in any case within the time your state's law requires.
- State privacy rights. Depending on where you live (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas and other states with consumer privacy laws), you may have the right to know what personal information we hold, to get a copy, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of its "sale" or "sharing" or its use for targeted advertising. We don't sell or share personal information or use it for targeted advertising, so there's nothing to opt out of. You can still make any of the other requests by email, and you can use an authorized agent. We won't treat you differently for using these rights. If we turn down a request, you can appeal by replying to our decision.
- Global Privacy Control. We honor Global Privacy Control and similar browser signals as an opt-out of sale or sharing. Since we don't do either, the signal changes nothing about how the site works for you.
9. Security
We protect the site and your information with encrypted connections (HTTPS only, with HSTS), strict browser security headers, a form endpoint that accepts only new reservations and never returns stored data, spam limits and least-privilege access to the reservation list. The appeal builder's design is itself a safeguard: your insurance letter is never sent to us, so it can't be exposed by a breach on our side. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach ever affects your information, we'll notify you as the law requires.
US-only. Roofd is built for homeowners in the United States and isn't intended for people outside the US.
10. Children
Roofd is for homeowners and isn't directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date above. If a change is significant, for example if we start using information in a new way, we'll tell people on the reservation list by email before it takes effect.
For questions or requests about privacy, email [email protected].
